Meet the Moussaka Lady
Odyssey : the definition of a long exciting journey, which just so happens to be particularly suited to our very talented Odyssey Taverna Sous Chef. Meet Diana ‘The Moussaka Lady’.
We count ourselves lucky that Diana has ventured upon us on her long exciting journey.
Diana’s journey began in Korca, an Albanian city on the Greece and Albanian border where she was born. At 19 Diana moved to Greece to be with family. Working as a chef big things happened during her time in Greece, she met her husband Vangjel (who also happens to be our head chef in the Odyssey Taverna) and together they had their child Emanuel while living in Athens. When Emanuel was just 4 and a half Diana and Vangjel decided to pack their lives up, say goodbye to Greece and make the big move to Australia!
For 6 years Diana and her family were based in Cairns working as chefs. While they loved their new Australian life in Cairns (although sometimes the heat in the kitchen was too tropical, even for a pair of chefs from Greece) it was time to make another, less dramatic move to Brisbane. This is how the Odyssey Taverna was lucky enough to acquire the very talented and cherished Diana or as she is affectionately referred to ‘The Moussaka Lady’.
When asked if she likes Brisbane Diana replied ‘we came here for a safe, good life where the work is plentiful and this is what we got’ she also added that their favourite part of Brisbane is ‘the nice weather and that everybody walks around with a smile on their face’. We have to agree with Diana, we often see people dining in the Odyssey Taverna with nothing but happy smiles on their faces!
Of course we couldn’t finish without asking Diana if she would give away her secret to preparing and cooking amazing Greek food to which she replied simply – ‘Love, Food is Love’
If you would like to try Diana’s Greek Food, prepared with love of course, you can do so by dining in the Odyssey Taverna at the Greek Club for lunch or dinner Monday to Saturday or lunch on Sunday’s.
Did we mention we recommend the Moussaka?
